Eagle Tree FAQ

What is an OSD?

  • OSD stands for On Screen Display. An OSD is a device which inserts a data layer into a live video stream. The data layer can display useful info about the current scene in the video.

What can the OSD be used for?

  • An OSD can be used to monitor model data when performing first person video R/C or FPV. The OSD will allow the user to monitor many aspects of the R/C plane.

What are the bare components are required to get the OSD module working?

  • The Eagle Tree OSD requires the use of an eLogger or other data logger from Eagle Tree and the OSD expander module.

What components do you recommend for a starter OSD for FPV R/C applications?

  • An eLogger, OSD, and GPS expander module can provide for some of the basic functions needed for FPV flight or ground modeling. With the addition of the GPS module a user can view battery information, distance from home, coordinates, and relative airspeed.

Is the OSD able to determine airspeed from the GPS or is the airspeed sensor required?

  • The GPS speed is ground speed. If you are traveling in wind, it will show the combination of the plane's airspeed and the wind speed. GPS speed also may be less accurate when not doing level/horizontal flight.
